I have just purchased a Centenary of Siemens Ediswan commemorative booklet.
One photo shows an aerial photo of Lydbrook Cable Works that I have not seen before.
It shows the railway bridge over the approach road intact, which I remember.
I was an apprentice at AEI/Siemens Ediswan.
The centenary is Siemens Brothers 1858 – 1958Siemens Bros and Ediswan (Edison & Swan) were owned or controlled by A.E.I. at the time. I reckon the photo is 1957/8, but I cannot find anything to substantiate this.
The track from Lydbrook viaduct to Lydbrook junction was lifted 1956 – 59 ?

My question is where is the Tower?
It certainly was there in original condition when we moved into Upper Stowfield Road in 1985 and I thought went way back to the thirties if not before

My grandfather Vincent Plascott had a senior role at the cable works and I love so see a copy of the centenary booklet.
I know that my grandfather was promoted by AEI and moved to south east London and was based at Woolwich where he stayed until he retired.

I meant I’d love to see a copy of the booklet. I believe that late in WW2 the factory made Pipeline Pluto that was used to pump oil and petrol to allied forces after D-Day.
I know that my mother told me that my grandfather had to sign the Official Secrets Act (or similar) and they couldn’t take in evacuees.

This shot of the cable works is late 1930s ….. during WW2 the cable works would produce 83 miles of the PLUTO pipeline also anti mine degaussing kits for the RAF and the Admiralty as well as the mikes and mikes of cables used for field telephones.

This should read late 1950s not 1930s if you look at the air raid shelters there are 4 next to the recently built unit some have now been removed also at the top left of the photo the other side of the road you can see some more of the original shelters there were 10 some have been removed.
