Foxes Bridge Colliery, Cinderford

Foxes Bridge Colliery

Foxes Bridge Colliery closed in 1931 ( The Industrial History of Dean, Cyril Hart, 1971 ).

Foxes Bridge, 2010

Terry Halford took these photos at the site of Foxes Bridge Colliery in early 2010.

Terry added (April 2010): "... find enclosed 3 photos taken recently of the old pit at Foxes Bridge. Apparently this whole area was dug up, only to be filled again to make it safe. Whilst digging they uncovered the old beam engine this is believed to be mounted on a concrete block as a memorial. The tunnel uncovered ran into the winding house. There are two massive concrete blocks above this on the ground with threaded bolts. I assume this was where the feet of the frame for the winding wheel was anchored".
