Ivor wrote (December 2007): "This is a picture of my grand-dad
who is better known for his rugby as A. D. Carpenter ("Bumps").
He is helping to build the A48 trunk
road
to
Gloucester. We're not exactly sure of the date but think its 1940 onwards.
My grand-dad is in the back row, second from the left".

"Bumps" was the first Forester to play rugby for England. He was born Adolphus Denzel Carpenter in Mitcheldean in 1900. He played rugby for Cinderford, Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England. and the Barbarians. Bump's England jersey is on display at Cinderford Rugby Club" - Rob Harris - The Forester Dec 6th 2007.
