The wording on the sign reads: Britain's First Sputnik Sucessfully launched Carnival Day 1957.

Dave Nash added: "... The badge on the front of the sputnik is that of Bells Grammar School.Perhaps Albert could confirm if this was an entry by the senior pupils of the day".
