A site visitor added (January 2019): "... The miner in the foreground is ... Dennis Robins. He was underground pit deputy at Northern colliery"

Northern closed 49 years ago in December 1965.

January 1966. Among the demolition crew are —Eric Morris and Harvey Gwilliam.

Lynne Childs added (October 2015): "... My father was killed in the last pit accident in Northern United in 1963. His name was Bill Powell. I would be interested in seeing any photographs that people may have of the miners that worked there during the late 50's early 60's".

Ian Rigby added (March 2017): "... Does anyone recollect a manager at Northern United Colliery named Edward Gerrard? I am looking into the possibility that he is the same Edward Gerrard, from Hindley, who played football for Preston North End. Thanks"
