Porthcawl was a popular destination for a day out from the Forest of Dean.
Brian Neale added (November 2015): "... my father's mother was born in the village of Sling in the Forest of Dean, which is not very far from Bream. I spent many a day together with my father and mother in Sling with my father's mother's parents and cousins who used to call in to see us. Porthcawl i think was the nearest seaside resort to the Forest of Dean although it was quite a long ride in a car etc to get there . We Lived in the Rhondda Valley which was pretty near to Porthcawl".
