The two men - Bubs Carpenter (left) and Thomas Lucas (right) are squatting on the top of a tip of mine waste. This waste would have been from a small coal mine located nearby.

Christine Morgan added (Septemebr 2022): "... Thomas Lucas is my grandfather it's lovely to see him with Bubs Carpenter his friend. I was very young when he died and remembered him smoking that pipe. Lovely memories !".
