St Mary's Church at Briavels in 1906.
St Mary's Church was apparently dedicated to St Briavels in the 12th century but was known as St Mary's by 1431. Modifications followed over the years including a new tower in 1830-31 to replace the existing tower which had poor foundations. The new tower also lead to the removal of the Cross which had occupied the same site. St Mary's became independent of Lydney church in 1859. The first vicar was Horatio Walmsley
