Lydney Sunday Hockey Team c 1954 in front of Lydney Town Hall.
Back row: John Hampton, Derek McCullogh, David Reece, David Millard, Stan Elliot, Cedric Hughes
Front row: Michael Hughes, Peter Davies, Alan McOwan, Peter Morgans, Harold McOwan
Allan McOwan said that Cedric Hughes really started the team because many of the team played for the Old Grammarians Hockey Club which only played on Saturdays and they wanted to play on Sundays too. Mr. Lionel Hughes (Cedric's father) suggested they called the team 'The Mudlarks' because they were always playing on muddy pitches but the name didn't stick so they were known as the Lydney Sunday Hockey Team. Apparently they were quite successful and won most of their games.
