These badges appeared in an article by Sally McGoon in "The New Regard" Number 23, 2009, published by the Forest of Dean Local History Society.
Terry Halford wrote (May 2009): "...in response to the photo of the various
badges worn by servicemen at Naas Camp during WW2, I would be intrigued to
know the history of where these badges came from as the 'winged 8' badge was
the badge of the 8th Air Force who were stationed in and around East Anglia. The nearest
(8th Air Force) base to the Forest of Dean was Mount Farm in Oxfordshire.
The 'A in a circle' badge - this is
the badge of Patton's Third Army. They were stationed in Ross on Wye, although a small
detachment.
