Lydney Cottage Hospital.

Thanks
to John Bunker who added (July 2008): "My brother Adrian and I had our
tonsils out here in the early 60's. I remember it for two reasons
1. We went there by taxi - run by "Squiz Bailey" who also
ran the trendy
Espresso Coffee Bar in Newerne Street. The car was a Vauxhall Cresta
(PA) - which had "wrap round" front and rear screens - very
hip.
2 The anesthetic was a gauze mask placed over the face fed with an
Ether
Drip. I came round early and saw my brother still in "production".
How
medicine has moved on .
Peter Essex added (June 2010): "... I'm wondering if anyone remembers my Aunt Lil who was on the nursing staff at this hospital. I ca'nt be sure of the exact period but it included the early years after the Second World War. Her real first name was Lydia her maiden name McLean. She was married to Frank Francis Bertie Sterrey, shed foreman at Lydney Junction. Their son Alan was alive and kicking in Lydney fairly recently. He was married to Jill nee Morgan who died in early 2007".
