Watts Garage, Lydney in 1982.

Watts of Lydney

John added: "... Sadly not a single brick remains!!"

Jeff Jones added: "... this makes me feel old as I'd just started driving then and used Esso all the time. You earned tokens to exchange for cut-glass look glasses. I had probably 2 dozen eventually - all shapes sizes. Great as BBQ picnics were becoming the fashion, very posh for our wine, yet quite strong too. Mind, the stems started falling off all about the same time - albeit many years later. Glass fatigue! . The sign shows petrol at 1.48 per GALLON about 33p a litre... ",

Frank Osborne added (December 2013): "... I worked in the machine shop at Watts Factors and then the 'Tin works'*. In the machine shop were Brian and Rex Morgan, Bob Lewis, Des May and Alan Haddock. I was there until about 1977 when I moved to Redditch Worcs. I wonder if any of you guys read this? it would be nice to hear from you".

Jane Elson added (Jan 2014): "... You might remember my dad, Alan Watkins, he worked in a machine shop at Watts around that time. Sadly passed away several years ago but many happy memories of Watts of Lydney".

Gemma Edwards added (Feb 2023): "... My dad used to send me in to spend his Esso tokens¦.We had loads of white mugs with distant birds (that just looked like an M) on them".

* - this refers to bulidings and land owned by Watts on the site of the former Lydney Tin Works - Ed.
