Lydney Welsh Society - Committee St. Davids Day Dinner at the Feathers Hotel, Lydney on March 1, 1938.

Back Row (L to R): Brinley Jones (Barclay Bank) Hughes (the Prudential) Emlyn James (J.S.Watts Manager)
Middle Row: 1 Not Known, "Drains" Richards (Lydney Rural District Council Sanitation Manager)
Front Row (L to R): Thomas (the Pearl) T.S. Thomas, L.E. Edwards (Midland Bank)

Alathea added (April 2015): "... My mother grew up in Lydney pre WW2, so I was very pleased to find your site with old photos of Lydney, in particular the one of the Lydney Welsh Society in 1938. I have another photo (above) presumably taken at the same time since it shows the same men in the same place: however you can see that it is not the same photo, if you look closely at the expressions. I had not known the identity of any of the men apart from my grandfather. I also have programmes for the Welsh Society's St David's Day dinner for 1937, 1938 and 1939 with autographs of some of the guests, which were among papers belonging to my grandparents Emlyn and Batchie James. The menus can be downloaded from here.

Peter Essex added: "... Mr Richards in this photo is clearly the Mr Richards seen about 14 years later as a Civil Defence trainee in 'A group of men at Lydney Cross' on 'Lydney Page 1'. We now have his nickname and his ethnicity".

David Essex added: "... Is the T S Thomas in this photo the, or related to, 'Tommy' Thomas who ran the BRS branch in Swan Road, Lydney (next to the Mills and Walker garage) after the war?".
