A Crane and logs at Pine End, Lydney.

Gantry crane

This is taken from a Kodachrome slide dated Jun 1983.

Terry Harper added: "... The crane in the picture is actually a Scotch Derrick. I suspect that the pillars visible support the rails for the gantry crane".

Peter Essex added: "... I remember this vast contraption from staying at Lydney in the 1950s. Visiting the reinvigorated and picturesque Lydney Harbour last week - Sep 2011, I found it sad to pass through the now semiderelict Pine End area between Cookson Terrace and the lower docks. Given the history of this trading estate including its vital wartime supply of Lydney plywood I hope the town's efforts at expansion will lead to a relatively scenic business park".

Maurice Oliver added: "... I use to work that crane. That was in the good old days, not like they are today. Great bunch of people there. I was even Pine Ends number one top worker!".
