John Bunker added (November 2008): "This lake used to freeze over quite often in the late 1950's/60's and it didn't matter how many times we were warned - we used to skate on it !! Some people used to venture right across to the island - even though the further you went out the thinner the ice got. It was an irresistable magnet".

Peter Green added (March 2018): "... I caught my 1st fish in that lake, carp, about 1963. Memories ! I was eleven".
