Ernest Samuel Walford of Lydbrook.

Ernest Samuel Walford

Andrew wrote (March 2008): "My great grandfather Ernest Samuel Walford who was born in Lower Lydbrook 12 September 1879".
"He was the son of Richard Walford 1841-1918 and Charlotte Probert 1852-1926. Samuel as he was known had brother's Thomas Richard Walford born 1870, Harold James Walford born 1887 and sister's Eliza Catherine Walford born 1874, Elizabeth Walford born 1875, Winifred Walford born 1882 and Grace Kate Walford born 1884.
The family lived around Waterscross and Vention Lane. Samuel moved to Abercarn, South Wales, where he worked in the Tin-plate works and married Mary Ann Lavender in 1904. Mary Ann's father John and grandparents Amos and Elizabeth Lavender also lived in Lydbrook for a time".
"Ernest Samuel Walford died in July 1940 aged 60 and was buried in Abercarn, South Wales".

Geoff Phillips added (Dec 2008): "This person was my late grandfather, who had seven children - all born and raised in Abercarn, Monmouthshire. His wife Mary-Ann died in 1958. Their seven children Earnest, Harold, Lesley, Grace, Winnie, Lottie [my mother] and Betty, have now all died having had 13 children - 10 of who survive. I am sure Sam's family / sister were called Sollars".

Arthur Sollars added (Dec 2009): "... The last line of Geoff Phillips update Dec 2008 states ''I am sure Sam's family / sister were called SOLLARS'. The record of Sam's brothers and sisters is correct, one sister being ELIZABETH Walford. She married Arthur Thomas Hall and had three daughters the second one being GRACE LOUISA Hall who married John Henry SOLLARS. Grace Louisa was therefore a niece of Sam WALFORD and cousins to his seven children. Grace Louisa Sollars ( nee Hall ), was particularly friendly with Sam's daughters Grace ( Stephens ) Winnie ( Hughes ) Lottie ( Phillips ) and Betty ( Britt ) Grace Stephens children - Les, Mary and Colin; Winnies Hughes son Bryan; Lottie Phillips son Geoffrey and Betty Britts son Alan and twin daughters are well remembered".

Janet Khalfan added (May 2012): "... just reading through your page on old photos of the Forest of Dean. Lottie Phillips did she marry an Edmund Rees in Wales?".

Alan Woodhouse added (July 2017): "... now living in Pembrokeshire I was born in Lydbrook my father was Max Woodhouse my grandmother was Winifred Walford".
