Littledean (coin) clippings in the British Museum.

A photo of a display at the British Museum with the label Littlledean clippings hoard found at Littledean (UK), 2015:
"The contents of the hoard make it highly likely that it was buried in the early to mid 1690s just before the Great Recoinage of 1696.... Old coins could be exchanged at face value and not weight for a specific period, a decision which appears to have actively encouraged clipping".
The Museum currently displays a selection of clippings from a hoard of 468 silver objects. It is part of "20 Years of Treasure A British Museum Partnership Project". Find out more about the clippings here.
