Stoker Clifford Carter
Clifford was the son of Bill and Maud Carter of The Pales. He was born March 21 1921. He served with HMS Matabele and died on 17 January 1942. HMS Matabele was sunk by a German U Boat on this date. Clifford's name appears on the Naval Memorial at Plymouth.

Adjacent to the memorial above is a plaque to Anthony Locke Smith d. Malaya 8/3/1949 aged 26.
In the churchyard is a commonwealth war graves headstone to Pte. Daniel William Davies d. 3/2/1916 in Malaya.
On a family memorial near the school wall is Frances Mary Toomby, Forewoman Cook, Queen Mary's Army Auxilliary Corps, d. 14/11/1918. She is buried with her mother.
