Elijah And Emily Sayes of Ellwood, Gloucestershire.
Keith wrote: "... I would like to know where they lived, I think it may have been Ellwood. I think Elijah died in 1927."
In the 1901 census - they appear in Ellwood - Ed.
Shella Selby added (June 2010): "... Elijah Says/Sayes was the son of Emma Selby and John Seys of Tidenham. Emma was the daughter of John and Jane Selby of Hewelsfield and the sister of Shadrach Selby - my husbands 3 x ggrandfather. On the 1911 Census Elijah and Emily are still living at Ellwood but no actual address is given. There is also another Selby connection in that I believe Elijah's daughter Emily Ruth married Stephen Adams and their son Manfred Ivor Adams married Winifred Lucy Selby my husband's great aunt. Its great to see a photo of them. Is Keith a relation?".
Keith added: "... I have been to the house where Leslie Sayes and his wife Ann lived at Ellwood. I went there with Sayes relative from New Zealand ... but was not sure this was the same home as where Elijah lived. I do have a copy of the signature of Elijah and no I am not a relative ... Emily was an Ellwood girl but Elijah came from Pontypool. Their daughter Emily Ruth Sayes married an Adams and their children were Ivor Eric and Cyril".
Steve Cooper added (June 2010): "... Two sons of Elijah and Emily Sayes were killed in the Great War:
Able Seaman Samuel Sayes, Nelson Battalion, died 27th June 1915 aged 27, buried East Mudross Military Cemetery.
2nd Lieutenant JOHN Sayes died 31 October 1918, buried Valenciennes St Roch Communal Cemetery".
Judith Seys added (October 2010): "... Yes Elijah was born in Pontypool, Trevethin possibly, but the Seys/Sayes family is from Tidenham. His father was John Seys. Elijah changed the spelling to Sayes".
