Milkwall Station, Gloucestershire in the 1920s.

This photograph was taken looking up the line towards Coleford. The railway line was part of the Severn & Wye Railway and the branch from Parkend to Coleford was opened in 1875, The siding to the left was for mineral traffic and terminated at Sling. The gradient up to Milkwall Station was 1 in 31 - very steep for a railway line. Lack of use by local people lead to the last regular passenger sevice being withdrawn in the 1920s.(1)
