Blackcurrant Picking at Coleford

These ladies are working in the Blackcurrant field outside "Carter's" (now GlaxoSmithKline). Small crops of experimental varieties of blackcurrant were grown in the field in the early 1960s.

Colin Smith added (December 2009) "I am an ex pupil of Bells and resident of High Nash and left school at Easter, 1956. At that time the experimental blackcurrant field adjacent to Rock Lane had matured. I believe it it was unfortunately grubbed up in the 1960s
