Lawrence wrote: "Attached is a photo of my Grandmother's brother who emigrated to
Australia in 1922. The photo was taken in 1940 and he had just enlisted in the
A.I.F. ( Australian Imperial Force). It goes downhill from there, he shipped to singapore, P.O.W.
(captured in the fall of Singapore), sent to Changi, worked on the
Burma death railway and then was torpedoed and killed on the 'Rakuyo Maru' by USS submarine Sealion
in 1944. He married Stella Burton (b.1903 Northampton UK) just prior
to shipping out. She never remarried and died in 1963".
"His name was Lovell Glendower Smith and he was born 4 May 1906 to
Olive Smith Mother Albion Place High St Cinderford. She was my Great Granny".
"I have pieced together a little of the family tree but would welcome
any stories about Lovell or any information regarding my Great Granny
Olive Elizabeth Smith (his mother). I'd also appreciate any
information on the Goode, Smith, Millard or Pearce families in that
region, particularly Rhoda Minnie Goode (b.1869), Rachel Goode
(b.1850), Samuel Millard (b.1854, he was a brewery manager in Gloucester
or Barnwood. He was also a mason)".
