Gilbert Meek? of Cinderford

Gilbert Meek? frequented the Swan Hotel in Cinderford run by Terry's family. Gilbert was a well-known character around Cinderford.On the back of the photo, Gilbert wrote "My grateful thanks to Mr and Mrs James for their kindness on September 29, 1962 from Gilbert" (Meek?).
The sash reads: R.O.H. , Valley Lodge, No 8871. The orange colour is defect on the photo.

Thanks to Ian Riddell for adding (October 2007): "By doing a quick Google search, it looks like R.O.H. is 'Roll of Honour' member of the Royal Antidiluvial Order of Buffalos".
