A group of Lydney Grammar School pupils?
David wrote: "... Here is the picture of my mother and classmates I think it was taken at Lydney Grammar where she was a student. She was born in 1908 and so I think this must have been taken about 1923 or 1924. Perhaps someone more familiar with Lydney Grammar than I am, can identify the place where it was taken. I don’t know anyone else in the photo but my mother is the girl with long hair seated on the male teacher’s left. She was Florence Annie Stone from Bream. Her brothers, Tom, Sam and George were keen cricket players and are pictured elsewhere on the Sungreen site. Will Stone was a noted rugby player and played Northern Union as it was known then, Rugby League now, for Hull Kingston Rovers and England. Quite a sporting family the Stones".
Later David added: "... I showed my sister the photo ... On reflection the young women are not in uniform, c.f. the school photos already on the site. However the background looks similar to the background to other LGS photos. Another alternative that occurred to us is that it could be a group from the shop in which my mother worked when she left school. I think it was a drapery shop. I somehow doubt that a draper’s shop in Lydney would have had so many employees, so perhaps it is an end of school photo of the senior girls".
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
