Speech House decontamination building.
World War 2 Decontamination Building that stood in Speech House woods. Sadly demolished in the 1980's.
Ray commented on Facebook: "... first time i went in was when i was in Parkend Scouts early sixties, A group went up with the district commissioner to see if the scout movement could use it, they unlocked the doors and every thing was intact inside. I dont know what happened with the plans but a few years later we went by and it had been broken into and trashed and gradually deteriorated over the years, remember sheltering inside from the rain when i worked on the forestry commission".
Bob Smith added (August 2017): "... I can recall the old building very well. We'd occasionally venture that far on summer holiday adventures. This would have been around the mid 1970s and it was reasonably complete although in a bit of a trashed state. It was still there when I moved to Ruspidge to live in about 1983 but must have been demolished soon afterwards. We used to incorrectly think it had been either a guard hut or the canteen as I recall . The big 'ol galvanised water boiler for the decontamination showers was still in place back then as were coat and clothing racks and some items of furniture".
