George Miles started work in "The Pit" (a coal mine) aged 9. His first job was minding doors. This involved opening and closing doors underground to aid ventilation. He died in 1932 aged 61 years. Mary Miles died in 1954 aged 83 years. Both are buried in St James churchyard, Bream.
Thanks to Hylton Miles, Maurice Thomas and A Miles for their recollections.

Geraldine Smith added (Oct 2006): "Clara Miles (nee Leech) sitting left was a sister to my grandmother Gwyneth Leech. Born at St. Briavels 1889 she was the daughter of Tom Leech and Mary (nee Jenkins). Mary was the daughter of Simeon Jenkins and Sarah (nee Hopkins) from Bream. Simeon was the son of Samuel Jenkins of Bream. If anyone could supply me with ... any other material relating to Clara Leech I would be most grateful".
