Princess Royal Colliery, Bream - Blacksmiths

Princess Royal Blacksmiths

Left to right: Cliff Wintle, Bill Cole, Jack Wintour, Albert Haynes, Don Hook, Ron Watkins.

In the Forest & Wye Valley Review of 14 February 2003, Brian wrote: "... The roads (underground passages) ran in all directions- back under Bream, towards Parkend, Yorkley and a long way towards Blakeney."

The article adds: "... Mr Johns laughs when he recalls rding his bike from Blakeney to Park Gutter and then having to walk back underground as far as Howbeach to the coalface. The Princess Royal he said was an amalgamation of a number of old pits such as Jupiter and Venus which were at Parkend. There were roads everywhere. At one time it was possible to enter at Tufts Level (Norchard) and walk to New Norchard (Pillowell), on to the Princess Royal and from there through Flourmill Colliery at Bream".
