The Parkend School Oak

The Parkend School Oak at Beechenhurst, 1969
The schoolchildren are inspecting a slice of the main trunk of the oak tree that formerly stood opposite Parkend School. Various events that occurred during the life of the tree are marked on the tree rings.
The oak was felled on November 15th 1968 along with 3 large beech trees. It was reported to be more than 350 years of age which dates it from around 1618 (Journal of Memories on the Centenary of Parkend School 1885 - 1985 pub. 1985)
