Mr Percy James, a Forest Sheep Badger

Perce James (31k)

Courtesy of:  Brian James. Uploaded:

This lovely old photo shows Mr Perce James of Oak Cottage, Mill Hill, Bream carrying one of his sheep. Mr James was a true Forest Sheep Badger, running his 30 or so sheep locally and tending them, on foot, in all weathers. Mr James was carrying this sheep the mile or so back to a paddock near his home where it could be cared for by his family..
This photo (which was not posed for the camera) was taken by the Bream policeman P.C. Shergold who was a keen photographer and happened to be in the right place at the right time. The photo was taken near the old Flourmill colliery coming down through the ferns from Shutcastle.
The man in the background is Mr Frank Jones.
