The photo shows the Oakwood Mill Death Club on a visit to Blackpool.

The Death Club was simply a club into which members paid a weekly subscription. Once a year they usually held an outing or had a meal together. When one of the members died, a family member would collect the monies paid in. Usually the money was used to pay for, or help pay for the deceased member's funeral. Such clubs were common in the early years of the last century.
