Thanks also John Ambrey, Sylvia Curphey and to Glenice Goldsmith who added (April 2007): "...consulting with my elder brother, our uncle Thornton Ellway lived at the end cottage of the Royal Oak. He had lived there most of his life and was a retired miner. I was evacuated to Yorkley during World War II with my mother Mabel Chapman (nee Ellway). Thornton died in 1964/65".

Thanks also to Bev Nash who added (June 2007): "... Eric and Mary Beddis (later) bought the old Royal Oak. I did odd jobs for them on a Saturday when they were working on the home, then would go over to the chip shop on the green for lunch, before going to play rugby. I used to go to Yorkley Youth Club with their son John. He had a sister Susan and a younger one called .. Erica. John played rugby with me for Yorkley Colts, he was a hooker, around 1967 or so".
