John is the Veap Rudge mentioned in Alfred Harris' journal that is mentioned on your website and he was killed in a mining accident on the 23rd February 1887 at Trevethin, Abersychan, Monmouth. I don't know how he came to be nick named Veap.
"William's 1st cousin also William Rudge in the front row was the son of George Rudge & Elizabeth Saunders also of Whitecroft. Naomi & Elizabeth were sisters. William was killed in a mining accident at the Princess Royal colliery on the 14th September 1928".
" .... the John Rudge whose death was recorded in Alfred Harris' journal on the 23rd April 1876 was the two William's grandfather and my 3 x Gt. grandfather. The Morgan's in the photograph are probably related to me as well as John's wife was Ann Morgan who was born in Whitecroft".
