Romany King - Xavier Petulengro
Roger wrote: "Gypsy Petulengro was reputedly the Romany King. He was friendly with the Vines family that lived opposite Viney Hill Church. He was a Showman specialising in Fortune Telling and also had columns in ladies magazines. He was in the process of moving to Viney Hill when he died suddenly. He was interred in the Churchyard behind the Church where his grave can be seen today".
Paul Petulengro added (Sept 2009): "... can I just add that Xavier Petulengro, my grandfather, did not die suddenly, he had suffered a stroke some months before - shortly after moving from Wheathampstead, Herts. to Littlehampton where he died. He had always loved Viney Hill and he had no plans to live there but he always said he wanted to be laid to rest there and plans were made with the Vines to arrange this when the time came".
