The Houses in the foreground were built on the old Parkend ironworks site.
Parkend Colliery stopped raising coal in 1929, although Castlemain shaft was kept open until 1944 to service New Fancy - Severn and Wye Railway, Volume 1, Pope How and Karau 1983.
