The Westaway Medal for Merit was presented annually to the pupil, leaving the Drybrook School at age 11, who was adjudged to have had the best academic, attendance, and disciplinary record. This example was presented to Eric Nicholls in 1957. Westaway Medal for Merit suggests it was endowed by the Westaway family of grocers of Cinderford. Does anyone know in what year it was first presented, and when was it last presented, and the story of how the award came to be instituted?"
