Coleford GWR Station

The
Great Western Railway was in direct competition with the Severn & Wye
Railway for business in the Forest of Dean. Each railway company had
a station at the terminus of it's line in Coleford. The two stations
stood side by side. GWR's other route into the Forest was via Bullo Pill
Junction through to Bilson (Cinderford).
The GWR line from Monmouth to it's terminus in Coleford was opened in 1883 and
closed in 1917.
Thanks to John Thorn for adding: "Whilst the line from Monmouth closedin
1917,
the line through the GWR station was connected to the 'Severn andWye' line and
used to access Whitecliff Quarry - until the 1960's, I
think".
