Old Photos of the Forest of Dean - Coleford and district

Ellwood

View of Fetter Hill
Courtesy of: Mary Akers     Uploaded: March 2008

We do not know who the couple are but we think that the photo was taken in Ellwood with a view of the stone quarries of Fetter Hill in the background

Thanks to Barbara Thomas who wrote (April 2008): "This gentleman reminds me of my grandfather, William Elsmore of Ellwood. I'm pretty sure it isn't him, but it could be one of his brothers. When very young, 1950s , we regularly walked from Ellwood to Fetter Hill via tracks in the forest. I remember being told that 'Aunty Kate' lived in a cottage (Rose Cottage ? ) near one of the paths. My grandfather's brother John Henry is buried in Ellwood Cemetery with his wife Kate, I think they could be the people in the photo. Unless anyone knows differently....!".
