Pool House, Ellwood
Thanks to Barbara Thomas who added (April 2008) "This photo was taken in
Feb.1914 of the Elsmore family. It appears to be outside their home Pool
House in Ellwood. My grandmother Mary Jane Elsmore(nee Cole) is holding my
father Harry. The others are Harry's siblings...left to right...Lilian,
Hannah (known as Ciss), Rose, Beat and Edward (Teddie) in front. I don't
know why my grandfather William is missing from the line up.In Feb 1914
the eldest of the children, Stanley aged 15, was killed in an accident at
the Flour Mill Colliery. This photo could have been taken at the time of
the funeral. According to the reports in the local paper the funeral was
attended by many people and was carried out by members of the local
I.O.G.T.Lodge. 'The place of interment was the new burial ground attached
to Ellwood Chapel, this being the first body to occupy space there'" .
