Bob who is author of 'Rails to the Forest', (published in June 2010) added: "... I am attaching a JPEG scan of one of my photographs of Princess Royal (Park Gutter) colliery, taken on 31st October 1961, ...

Can anyone name the operator of the horse-drawn coal delivery cart, where it was based, and what area it served?

Rita Arnold added: "The man with horse and cart looks a bit like Freddie James of Pillowell who had a horse and cart and dog trotting with him. His hair always flopped on his forehead but I'm not certain". - another site visitor confirmed that it is "Freddy James who operated in the Whitecroft/Pillowell area".

Detail

When did the nearby Princess Royal brickworks close? (I am advised that the clay was sourced from the Princess Royal workings).

And finally :- ยท Could anyone assist with any photographs of surface operations at the Pillowell Level mine, (1938-57), which re-opened briefly again between 1962 & 65 - for possible inclusion in Volume 2?

In the photo above the signwriting on the lorry door is "Victor Hale & Co., The Fuel Merchant, Broadwell, Coleford, GLOS Also at Whitecroft, Lydney"
The registration number of the Morris Minor van is KRV 975.
