Tony wrote: "... I was interested to see the photograph of the row of cottages in Alvington and attach a photo of the same row - it might even have been taken at the same time (the 1st floor window is open in both). c1910. The photo belonged to my late father, Edgar Davis, and I believe he is one of the young boys pictured. He was born in 1900 in Alvington but ran away in 1914, aged 14 to enlist in the Goucestershire Regiment - lying about his age. After training he was sent to France. In 1916 he was posted to Salonica where the British were fighting the Turks. There he caught malaria and was sent to Gozo to recuperate. Posted back to the Western Front he eventually came home in 1919".
